The Heart of a King Online Devotional Study 3: Be Careful Who You Listen To

Karen over at Living Life is having a bible study. The Heart of a King. This week the topic is "Be Careful Who You Listen To"

The story is of Rehoboam. He had council from two different sources. He listened to the wrong voices, and ultimately made the wrong decision resulting in a split in the kingdom.

Personal Reflections
1. Are you careful about who you listen to and what advice you follow?

I definitely try to be careful. It pays to always seek the Lord when faced with any decision. He is for us, and is on our side. He knows all the answers. If we can just keep that in mind, and trust that He wants what's best for us, we can choose the right way.

2. Look up Scriptures that talk about seeking Godly counsel. Write each Scripture reference down and share with the group.

Proverbs 4:20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
There are many places in the word that instruct us to "listen" to God. To be successful we must always choose to follow God's way.

I am reminded of Judges chapter 6, where Gideon had a decision to make. He put the fleece before the Lord. He listened to God, made the right decision, and a great victory was won.

In Genesis, Adam and Eve were faced with 2 possibilities, and like Rehoboam, chose hastily without seeking God. Just think how different things would be for us if Eve had been more careful who she listened to.

My prayer is that we always remember that God loved us so much that He sent his son to die for us while we were yet sinners. I pray this increases our trust in him, for when we trust him we will gladly choose his ways in all things.
